Adalah-The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel

Established in November 1996, Adalah (“Justice” in Arabic) works to promote and protect human rights in Israel in general and the rights of the Palestinian Arab minority in particular. As stated by one of Adalah’s key beneficiaries: Adalah is viewed as “the legal arm” of the Palestinians in Israel. Adalah’s work also focuses on defending the human rights of all individuals subject to the jurisdiction of the State of Israel, including Palestinians living in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT). Adalah uses the domestic and international human rights and humanitarian law legal frameworks available for minority groups and civilians living under occupation, and responds quickly to community needs. Within the vibrant human rights NGO community in Israel/OPT, Adalah fulfills a strategic niche: It is the only Palestinian Arab legal center working to protect the rights of Palestinians in Israel and the OPT before Israeli courts. Adalah’s three main areas of work are: legal action, including impact litigation; international advocacy before UN, EU and US bodies; and legal education, including lawyers’ trainings and programs for law students, conferences, legal publications and extensive media and social media outreach in Arabic, Hebrew and English.
